Reality

The only way anyone will know whether or not you're having your period is if you tell them! When you go out on the streets can you tell who's having their period and who's not?

You can't go swimming during your period.

Reality

Of course you can go swimming during your period! Just make sure you wear a tampon and not a pad!

If you wear a tampon you'll lose your virginity.

Reality

Having sex is the only way to lose your virginity. Your choice of period protection has no affect at all, so there's no reason why you should not use tampons before you're sexually active.

Myth

You can't get pregnant during your period.

Reality

Though it's less likely than at other times of your cycle, it is not impossible to get pregnant during your period - particularly in the middle of the menstrual cycle. Don't risk it and remember that unprotected sex also exposes you to a host of sexually transmitted diseases.

You have to stop all physical activities during your period.

Reality

Listen to your body and do whatever makes you feel good! And with regards to exercise? the truth is the more active you are the least likely you are to get cramps!

You should shower and bath as little as possible during your period.

Reality

Girls tend to sweat more during their period which makes showering and taking baths even more important than usual. So to help you stay feeling clean and fresh, shower whenever you like.

Myth

PMS is all in your head.

Reality

Before your period, hormone levels in your body skyrocket meaning you may feel irritable or unhappy and you may suffer physical symptoms such as cramps or headaches. PMS is a real condition and shouldn't simply be dismissed as silly or imaginary.
